Product Stewardship of Polyurethane polymers – Current and future challenges.
Professor Gunnar Skarping
- Professor at Stockholm University
Stockholm, Sweden
and Vice-Chairman of International PU Forum Committee -
Professor Skarping is head of the division of Work Environment Chemistry, Stockholm University.
Professor Skarping has been consultant to manufacturer polyurethane made implants, companies that manufacture mass spectrometers regarding chemical ionisation and software for mass spectrometry, consultant to Sigma Aldrich, Division of Supelco regarding air sampling technology for isocyanates, several major petroleum companies regarding air sampling and biomonitoring among workers and international isocyanate institute (III) for air monitoring methodology. Professor Skarping is convener of ISO TC146/SC2/WG4 and has been a member of the scientific committee of IOHA. Professor Skarping has publicised more than 100 publications and several patents. Main areas of scientific work includes: methodology for air monitoring of isocyanates and amines in gas and size selective particle sampling, development of new dry samplers. The work has included generation of isocyanates and amines in specially designed climate chambers (-15 ºC - + 40 ºC) for up to 10 days. Analytical methods have been developed for low molecular weight isocyanates, diisocyanates, prepolymers and oligomers as well as aminoisocyanates and amines. The thermal degradation of polyurethanes and urea resins has been studied in some detail both in laboratory and in the industry. The efficiency of respiratory protective devices has been studied by the monitoring of biomarkers among workers and in controlled climate chamber studies of exposed respiratory filters. Methods for the determination of aromatic amines in PUR foam have been developed in professor Skarpings research group. The dermal uptake in humans of aromatic amines has been studied. Methods have been developed for the biomonitoring of isocyanates and amines in plasma, erythrocytes, urine and organs in the body. The methodology has been applied for controlled exposed human volunteers and workers. The presence of isocyanate and amine in the body has been studied among workers that have had isocyanate related symptoms. In addition, animal studies have been performed with radiolabelled TDI in isolated perfused lungs from guinea pigs. Isocyanate and amine studies have also been performed in other animals. - 講演予定時刻: 5月18日(月) 10:50-11:25
